The Cost-effective Entrance to Space

Andøya Rocket Range (ARR) is a provider of cost-effective access to space, and a premier launch facility for sounding rocket and balloons.

Established in the 1960s, the first sounding rocket launch occured in 1962. In the years since then about a thousand launch vehicles have lifted off from ARR. Customers come from all over the world, agencies like NASA, DLR, JAXA, CNES and many more have chosen to launch their vehicles from Norway.

One of Europe's most popular atmosphere research facility, ALOMAR, was opened in 1994. Located close to the rocket range, the Arctic Lidar Observatory for Middle Atmosphere Research has contributed to hundreds of scientific papers.

In 1997 ARR opened a launch facility on Svalbard, in Ny-Ålesund. Providing easy access to the polar cusp, Svalbard is a popular site for both sounding rockets and long duration balloons.
